Men's Group
The northern Lighthouse men's bible study meets on Friday mornings at 10am. We take time to discuss the bible to pray for each other and occasionally we play some baseball. It is a great time for us to get together and to encourage each other.
RIP
RIP stands for "Reintegration Program". This is a ministry of the Northern Lighthouse church and it was begun to help inmates who are preparing for parole or release from prison. Members of the community who have never been incarcerated are, of course, welcome to attend. We meet on Monday nights at 7pm. We have a christian 12 step program, grief share and also a variety of life skills classes. This session I am co teaching a healthy relationships class on the women's campus. (Due to the rules of the prison's work release center at this time, men and women are on 2 different campuses, men are meeting at HOpe community church and women are meeting at the NOrthern LIghthouse church)
Bolivar House
I am a cohort in a christian community house called the Bolivar House. We strive to live simply so we can work part time and spend the rest of our time in ministry. Currently the focus of our community seems to be providing support for people overcoming meth addiction and coming out of prison. We also have a pretty heavy former orphan focus as there are 6 adopted children in our community.
My family
First and foremost in life I am a husband and a father. I am very committed to my family and my home. I have 3 children and they keep me busy but they also each keep me very grounded in their own way. Simon is my oldest at age 10, although he has only been in our family for 2 years. We adopted him from Bulgaria. He is a bit medically fragile and is disabled. His old orphanage was a horrible place and he has been given the short end of the stick in this life. We strive to provide him with all the love and medial attention we can give him. Ishmael is 5 years old and is our most verbal child at this point. He told my wife one day that, "when people don't have a mommy or a daddy, they come and live with us". It is good to know that he gets what we are doing. June is my little girl, she is only 10 months old but she has already brought joy to many many people.
